...really has no business (read: talent) in story telling once he leaves his 'hood. Once he leaves his wise-guy bebop corner he is adrift and in an alien world. Massive spatter kills and buying expensive song rights will not change this. Unlike Kurosawa and many others, his root understanding of 'things' is too shallow or he is too arrogant in what he does understand to transverse form.
