Lead-in to a book review (about a book as good as Jared Diamond's "Collapse")... For a long time I have wondered how much progress there has been towards developing a state of _civilization_ (fairness, justice, peace, prosperity) within human society. I think we have a long way to go. I have also wondered where inequalities came from and whether enlightenment would contribute to progress
