Alex, In this context reliability is repeatability, easy to demonstrate for our senses using elementary tools of sensory & psychophysiology. Perhaps (no doubt you'll correct me if I'm wrong on this) when you write 'reliability' you actually mean validity. So if by 'reliable theorising' you mean 'valid theorising' one puzzle is removed but another remains--a valid theory simply returns

Peter - How do you know your sensory inputs are reliable? You can't just point to them, you can't base your argument on sensory input since that would be question begging. Your second point makes mine. Why is reliable theorising strange? Does a theory become something else (a theorem?) when it's shown to be reliable?
