I got home yesterday from the Carolina Birding Club's Fall Meeting. It was held in Santee, SC. I have spent the last three days hiking through swamps, woods, sod farms, and fresh and salt water compounds looking for birds. wonderful but i am EXHAUSTED. I saw 90+ species including 6 different hawks, Bald Eagles, Barred Owl, 12 wood warblers and more. Shore birds were not numerous. South Carolina

John, the bird was definitely larger or the size of a bread box. It was not a whistling duck because I can identify that. I looked like a hen or pheasant: ruddy brown, red eye ring and red legs. May 8, 2007 Cameron Park-Redwood Shelter to Rock Shelter and back, then up to Club house and around Miss Nellie's Pretty Place, then down to Pecan Bottoms, then to the Mouth of the Bosque. 7:45 AM-10:15 AM, 75 F, Partly Cloudy.
