Package: sl-modem-daemon Version: 2.9.9d+e-pre2-11.1 Severity: normal Hi, With the actual version of sl-modem-daemon, my modem doesn't work and I can't connect through wvdial. I have discussed on the linmodem list. Then I have tested it what they told me : try with another slmodemd binary, which is compiled for/with gcc4.3 . I launch it locally, and it works fine. FYI, the fax protocol doesn't renegotiate 'to handle static and such', you are confusing the behavior of a data connection with that of a fax connection. The modem I'm using cost as much as the brooktrout solution, certainly in the same league quality wise, I'd argue. Besides, you fail to consider the effects of jitter and also the fact that that slower speeds would use a different protocol
