I used to repair Sony Beta machines in the 1980s, but havn't done much with VHS. Sony SLV-R1000 (13yr old S-VHS deck) plays tapes recorded in SP mode okay, but with a little 'bleed' to the right when viewing white letters on a black background. Audio okay including HiFi.
