Hi Kate, Howard and Battleax, Many thanks for your help. I right clicked and unchecked the 'Maximize Window' option, and also backspaced - both work. I tried F9 and that seemed to send me from a maximized work area, to a smaller one, but still within the 'problem'. Many thanks to all of you for your help.
