you can catalog the backup tape on XP, but NOT vista. Be aware, however, that without the AD structure, all of the ACLs for the files will be obsolete. You'll have to manually reset all permissions. -Cliff "Joe" <jbarber@barbercs.com> wrote in message news:B5D02903-0D51-4B3F-9C5E-87595F4B2699@microsoft.com... No need for SBS2003 infrastructure. No need for SBS2003 infrastructure. The server is 8 years old the company recently sold out 90%% of their operations to another company. They went from 10 users to 3. I don't see how to justify a SBS box with only 3 users. So can I catalog the backup tape on a Vista or XP PC with the proper tape drive installed or do I have to reinstall SBS? Thanks Joe "Cliff Galiher" <cgaliher@gmail

If you are just going to restore files, you can catalog the tape on any machine. If, however, you plan on recovering *any* of your infrastructure (active directory) then you need to do so on the SBS machine. Even the most basic SBS setups still tend to be domain controllers (otherwise, why use SBS?!?) so, without knowing more, I'm still going to guess you'll end up restoring within SBS

I'm guessing it's because TSWeb is using internal addresses vs what you need, an external address to each and ever terminal server. -- Jeff Pitsch Microsoft MVP - Terminal Services "Joe" <spaceyjoe2020@yahoo.com> wrote in message news:6c6699a8-ea18-4e85-b1ea-8541e4d345e8@m36g2000hse.googlegroups.com...
