My favorite recording is the one he made with Sviatoslav Richter of the Beethoven Cello Sonatas. I have treasured this ever since it came out and prefer it to Casals, which is saying a lot (for me). I wish I could get enthusiastic about his Bach Cello Suites, but they were recorded in a cathedral that had so much reverberation that I could barely, if that, follow the music. So the Casals
