As a note to escape this discussion: I said I use an S-Video cable to connect my VCR to DVD Recorder (a Panasonic, by the way). Urban legend or not, you can find plenty of postings that recommend using a composite video cable. I made no comment on how a VCR processed the signal encoded on videotape.
