Usenet seems to be going into a terminal decline. Several people on newgroups I read regularly have reported that their ISPs are dropping or severely curtailing newgroup service. Perhaps this should be called VSS - Value Subtracted Service. Maybe before it dies altogether someone could suggest an appropriate newsgroup for reporting on and rating ISPs and noting whether they are VSS or not.

Perhaps this should be called VSS - Value Subtracted Service. Maybe before it dies altogether someone could suggest an appropriate newsgroup for reporting on and rating ISPs and noting whether they are VSS or not.

No one here has a personal agenda, but I currently suggest Avast, (free), or Nod32, (not free). Norton and McAfee have a long history of not being compatible with OE and I would never have either on a machine of mine. Some /lucky/ people have had Norton or McAfee for a long time an refuse to believe that their luck with those programs can change. Regardless of the AV program you use,

I was experiencing a similar error. My wife was also having problems using Netscape. I searched a lot of posts on this site and followed a lot of advice--reparing a winsock, checking settings, etc... I even called Microsoft and my internet provider. One thread dated back to April and indicated Norton Internet Security was interfering with a Windows update. Some users uninstalled the updates
